Filipino sociologist Walden Bello on the “Global Rise of the Far Right”
Walden Bello: The global rise of the far right
In PerspectiveIn our Luxemburg Lecture, Filipino sociologist Walden Bello discusses the global rise of the Far-Right with a special focus on the developments in India and the Philippines.
In this edition of our Luxemburg Lectures, the Filipino sociologist Walden Bello, one of the most important critics of capitalist globalization of our time and holder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, discusses with the journalist Malene Gürgen the “Global Rise of the Far Right” with a special focus on the developments in India and the Philippines. But as he does in his recently published book “Counterrevolution” that brings together studies from Italy in the 1920s, Indonesia in the 1960s, Chile in the 1970s, and today’s Thailand, India, and the Philippines, Bello goes far beyond local developments, maintaining a global perspective on what he considers counterrevolutionary movements.
